The jury unanimously selected the E18 project as the winner. According to the jury, timetable management and production control in the project were excellent thanks to the lifecycle model employed. The jury also praised the outstanding cooperation among the persons in the consortium. Other highlighted issues included the use of customer feedback in operational development, distribution of the risks of foreign subcontracting, and occupational safety.
Sito involved in planning
Sito’s versatile service offering enabled the comprehensive planning of a massive project in an extremely tight schedule while adapting to the needs of the constructors. Participants included designers in road design, geological design, bridge design, pile plate design, noise barrier design, tunnel design, environmental design, lighting design, traffic control design and telematics design. Planning was carried out in close cooperation with the constructor organisation and the other members of the group of consultants The project was the first major infrastructure project where the measurements of the structures conformed to the Eurocodes.
The project is being carried out as a so-called lifecycle project. It is part of the international E18 road and of the important Nordic Triangle traffic system of the EU. The road construction project on the E18 between Koskenkylä and Kotka is the largest ongoing road construction contract in FInland. The construction of highway 7 into a motorway from Koskenkylä to Kotka via Loviisa is one of the four missing development projects of the E18 between Turku and Vaalimaa. The motorway will be complete next autumn. The work was commissioned by the Finnish Transport Agency. The Valtatie 7 Oy road company will be responsible for the construction, maintenance and funding of the motorway until 2026.
