Strategy for Controlling Noise and Vibration in Railroad Traffic
The increase in housing in the vicinity of railroads requires more efficient noise and vibration abatement. Increased railroad traffic also multiplies the effects of vibration. People living and working near railroads suffer from the noise, but vibrations can also be detrimental to the living environment, sometimes even damaging buildings.
Noise abatement measures can be illustrated by outlining noise zones and planned noise abatement measures on an aerial photo.
Additional residential zones are planned next to railroads. However, the recent pre-study published by the Uusimaa Regional Council shows that nearly the entire railroad area between Kerava and Riihimäki is within the risk zone of vibration due to its geological features.
